NIVEA MEN AFTERSHAVE BALM PRIMER REVIEW
NIVEA MEN AFTERSHAVE BALM PRIMER REVIEW
written by: missdcal

So… you probably read the title and instantly saw the word “men” and thought what the hell is this girl on about!? Men’s aftershave balm as a primer?! 😳😳
However no need to fear just yet; I have only heard good things about the Nivea men aftershave balm as a primer and thought I would personally put it to the test!

Originally the formula is used for men after they shave to soothe skin from irritation and also improve their skin over time. HOWEVER as a primer its main goal is to make your makeup look as flawless as possible and keep it on for as long as possible! You may ask how on earth is it going to do that? well, its all in the ingredients! The Nivea man shave balm second most used product is Glycerin, this compound itself is used in lots of high end primers to maintain longevity, Glycerin makes the product tacky on your skin and thats what helps the rest of your base products really stick!
Onto some more important information, where can you buy this? and how much is it going to set you back? Good news! You can buy the Nivea mens aftershave balm from any local grocery store / pharmacy and it comes at a retail price of $10.49AUD – whats that I hear? BARGAIN
Moving onto the review! I have been testing out the Nivea balm for about a week, using it on a daily basis to really get a feel of whether I like the product or not. I find that this product like most others has both pros and cons, and will work differently on different skin types. So in this review I am going to talk about what worked and what didn’t work for me using the Nivea Men Aftershave Balm!
My first impressions of the exterior of the balm product was quite pleasant. As this product is associated with men, obviously it was not going to be covered in flowers and gold sparkles – however the bottle was made out of a really nice hard white glass, with simple writing and a white bottle cap, I found that this was quite sophisticated for a mens aftershave product. The balm itself was in a white, silky consistency and had quite a profound man smell… 👱🏼 The smell didn’t put me off too much however was quite potent.
To apply the aftershave balm, I simply just poured a pea size amount onto my hand and then evenly dotted the product around my face. The consistency of the balm was quite watery, meaning not a lot of product was needed to cover my whole face and application was super easy. One I had distributed the product all over my face I waited for the balm to get a tacky feel, and once this was achieved I was ready to go ahead with the rest of my makeup. The balm on my skin did not seem to leave any kind of burning or cooling sensation, although the smell did seem to linger around. Once I had applied my foundation and concealer, I did not really notice much of a change to the application of my makeup, however after I applied my powder I was quite impressed with just how flawless my makeup looked ontop of the balm, in contrast to when I didn’t wear the balm! Once I had finished applying all of my makeup to my skin, I extremely happy with the end result!

As shown in the images above, after I had applied all of my makeup with the balm on underneath, my face appeared to look much more radiant, and my skin actually looked like skin rather than a cakey mess! 😍😍😍 I was extremely happy with how much makeup looked! BUT what I really wanted to know was whether the balm was actually going to help keep my makeup looking flawless and put all day long!
Little bit of background: I have oily skin especially around my T-Zone. On a regular basis I find that my makeup tends to start coming off and fading around my forehead, nose, chin and cheeks after about 3 hours.
For me, I really wanted to see if the balm would help reduce the above from occurring and still keep my makeup looking flawless!

After a total of 6.5 hours, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my makeup was still very much in tact! None of the powder, contour, blush or highlighter has rubbed off and still looked as good as it did when I first applied! 🙌🏼 The product also did not break my skin out or irritate acne (double 🙌🏼!) However I did notice that some oil had broken through my makeup, though this was merely as much as usual!! I simply blotted the oil away and again my makeup looked flawless! 😍
I am definitely more then happy to say that this product rocks! It really did help keep my makeup stay put and fresh all day (6-7 hours is usually an average amount of time that I will wear my makeup before removing it!) and even though the product was not able to keep oil from breaking through, a simple blot and repowder would take care of that easily! All in all, I am involve with this product and have continue to use it on a daily basis for maximum longevity! Totally recommend this product ladies and it does really work! So drop those $50 primers out of your online shopping carts and go out and pick this up from your local grocery store, you will not only save yourself a lot of money, but you also wont be disappointed with the results!!
