HOW TO CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES

Hello lovelies, I hope you are all well! Sorry about the lack of posts, I feel like I have been stuck in a deep rut over the last few weeks with little inspiration. I’m not sure if its the warming weather, but something has clicked and it feels good to be back and hopefully inspo continues to come back to me 🙈 Today I wanted to do a blog post on a really important topic… BRUSH CLEANING (duh…duh…duh). Yes I know brush cleaning is one of the worst chores known to woman-kind, but it doesn’t haven’t to be all that tedious!

OKAY lets get into this! SO if you want to know how to thoroughly but quickly clean your makeup brushes (keep reading).
First off you are going to need a few things to make this successful…
1. your dirty ass makeup brushes
2. a sink
3. a microfibre cloth
4. a gentle clarifying shampoo
and lastly 5. your trusty hands 👐🏼
once you have all of these items, makeup brush cleaning can commence 👌🏼🙌🏼
So what I like to do first when washing my makeup brushes is laying them all out in a particular order on a microfibre cloth (I usually lay them down from largest brush to smallest) now this is not an essential step but if your a little bit of a perfectionist like me, it just makes life that little bit easier 🙊 now with all the maintenance out the way, I then like to turn the tap on and get the water to a luke warm temperature, making the water warm helps with killing the bacteria on the brushes but also will not ruin your bristles 👍🏼 once the temperature is ✨perfect✨ I then go in and dampen all of the bristles on my brushes. It is always important to remember to only let the water touch the hairs on the brushes, if you let the water seep into the wand of the brush it can loosen the glue and this will lead to shedding of brush hairs (which is not good if you plan on keeping your brushes for a while!). Once all the brushes are damp I then place them back on the microfibre brush and prepare them for the shampooing – now that I think about it this process is a lot like washing your hair 🙈😂
When it comes to shampooing your brushes to get a deep clean, its essential to use a gentle clarifying shampoo, for a long time I was using the Palmolive Softwash Antibacterial wash which worked great! BUT then I found a life changer in brush washing soaps – baby bath wash! Yes that is correct! Baby soaps are super gentle for young skin and alternatively this is great for washing the delicate hair on your makeup brushes 🙈 I use the brand Baby Bath Wash by Thankyou. which is mild yet gentle, soap free and has no nasties or chemicals 🙌🏼 let me just tell you this stuff is absolutely amazzzzing 😍😍 I was surprised at how quickly yet thoroughly this shampoo cleansed all of the makeup, dirt and oils out of my makeup brushes.
To get my brushes squeaky clean, I pump the shampoo once into my hand and then swirl my damp brush into it, making sure I used the bumps around my fingers for textured and thorough cleaning. Once my brush head has foamed up and it is evident that product has been cleaned out of the brush I wash the bristles with the luke warm water and then repeat the process one more time! I keep going until all of my brushes look brand new 👌🏼
Once I have shampooed and cleansed all of my makeup brushes I rinse them thoroughly and I then go back to my microfibre cloth and lay all of the brushes back down again, slightly tilting them downwards so again the doesn’t seep into the handle! The drying process is an overnight thing so make sure that you allow enough time for your brushes to dry before using them again. I like to wash my brushes at the end of the day and let them dry off over night so that they are ready for use the next day ☺️☺️
There you go lovely people, it really is that easy to clean your makeup brushes to keep your face fresh and free from bacteria!
